Rebecca: She listed three children, three living on 1 June 1900 - recorded by George M. Adams, census taker. W.S. Martin in his Martin book, listed Clay Martin's wife as being Lizzie Martin.

She has had two children, of which 2 are living - where is the 2nd child? She was born in Ky, as were her parents. She appeared on the 1910 Federal Census in Kentucky.28 I believe this is our Mandy (Hays, from 1st marriage) - she has remarried in 1908 to George Row and his son from previous marriage (?) is living with them; her daughter by first marriage, Daisy Hays, would be 16 during this census and since she isn't shown living with Mandy & George, she may be married and under another name in this census.

I dont think her father was Clay Martin and her mother was a Price."

Old family lore has it that John Wesley Nelson went to WV and brought back Melissa "Caldonna" Martin as his wife. She was reportedly full blooded Cherokee Indian. This has turned out to be exactly that - OLD FAMILY LORE!

*She was said to have had the town of Mousie, KY named after her on July 31, 1916 in when the town was formed - at the prompting of her grandfather, William J. Martin. 40 Mousie Martin, born 1899 in Kentucky, , died 1976. ".Mousie. (Knott County) (Handshoe Quadrangle). This village with post office is centered on Kentucky 80 at the Creek, six and a half miles northeast of Hindman. The post office was established on July 31, 1916, some two miles up the fork with Ollie M. Gibson, postmaster and named for Mouise (Mrs. Mart) Gibson (1896-1976), the daughter of Clay Martin, a large landowner of that area. The post office was later moved to its present location but retained the name. According to Mrs. Gibson, a long time resident of Martin, her own name was suggested by her grandfather, W.J. Martin, since she had an older sister named Kitty! Mousie, however, is not an uncommon female given name in Eastern Kentucky.".- Allan M.
